The Fans of the Fanfare Project:

Memories in Music is so proud of the lovely fans who have committed to donate to Task Brasil's Casa Jimmy each month in honour of Jimmy Page. We'd like you to meet them, so we will be featuring them on the site. We hope they will inspire you to get involved. Our first featured fan is Maja Hanzek from Croatia.

Hello! My name is Maja. I was born on April 3, 1989 in Koprivnica, small town in Croatia (Europe), where I still live today. I am a student and studying ”Multimedia” which comprehends photography, design, video, acoustics, informatics and other computer skills. I have always been interested in art and design. My dream is to become professional photographer and world travel. I also like to draw, and usually concentrate on portraits, fantasy characters, and still life. I play guitar a bit. I share my house with my older brother, and my mother. My beloved father passed away when I was 16. I have two pets – my degus (breed of rodents) Sparky and Bonzo. They are absolutely adorable and always make me laugh or cheer me up when I am in a bad mood.

I remember my first high school days when a friend of mine gave me Coda (remastered version with bonus tracks) I will never forget the moment when I heard "White Summer/ Black Mountain Side" for the first time. I was in trance, never before I heard something like that. That guitar sound, melody, like they are coming from other world, from somewhere else. I actually felt all the passion through the speaker. That is how I became a fan of Jimmy Page. There is something in his music that I can’t find anywhere else. From light and acoustic to that heavy and electric, dirty Les Paul sound in all the various forms. Each melody, each solos, telling its story, masterpiece for itself.

As a member of a "Led Zeppelin official forum" I got in touch with Alexandra Noletti who told me about "Memories in Music" and "Fanfare" project. I liked the idea immediately. I always loved to help other people, so participation in a charity fit to me great. The idea of doing something, which will help those poor children, and in the same time do something which will make Jimmy happy and will he appreciate - what else could I ask for!! It makes me feel a better person. I mean you can't change the world overnight, but I think I just did my first step to make it a better place, well at least for those children.

I always loved art, but music is my biggest passion. I like to listen classic/hard rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Free…but I also like heavy metal, punk (The Ramones, Patti Smith, Iggy and The Stooges, MC5), grunge (Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Mother Love Bone), blues (John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Freddie King). I also like to listen traditional Indian raga music that includes sitar and tabla. Some of my favourite classic instruments are harp, cello, and harpsichord. I am opened for various music styles, and listen to what I like, rather than focusing on music direction only. If I hear a song and if it has touched my feelings I will listen to it even if it is not perfect in a technical way.

Currently featuring in my music rotation are Led Zeppelin (well, they always are), The White Stripes, The Tea Party, Sonic Youth, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Bad Company, Taste and similar bands.

Some of my favourite musicians besides Jimmy Page (and Zepp guys) are Rory Gallagher, Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmour, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Patti Smith, Freddie King, Robert Johnson, Paul Rogers, Joey Ramone and Mick Jagger among others.

My first album was Nirvanas Nevermind. Some of my favourite music moments are seeing Led Zeppelin DVD for the first time. Still regret for being born at the wrong place in the wrong time, and never to saw them perform live. I remember hearing Zepp’s In My Time Of Dying for the first time and knew this will be the song that will play at my funeral. Listening to Tangerine always brought tears in my eyes.

Music has always played a huge role in my life and especially Jimmy Page’s music. It really helped me to pull through some dark moments in my life (depression periods, and my recent stay in hospital when my life was in danger). It gave me strength to move on and fight and inspired me never to lose hope.

So thank you Jimmy for all that wonderful music you gave to me and to the rest of the world, and for all the courage and persistence you had to accomplish your vision.

And to all the other fans, I would like to tell you to take care and find your music hero, find your music that will enrich your lives and give you inspiration, happiness or consolation when you will need one. When you listen to some song, it is not just that song or melody, but also musician’s feelings and part of himself he put in that music. I know I am really grateful to find mine.

If Jimmy has inspired you, why not join us? Send an email to info@memoriesinmusic.com with the subject "Fanfare." We'll let you know how it works and add you to the list. This page will be updated monthly with the total amount of money sent to Casa Jimmy, and will have updates from Task Brasil and special events the Fanfare fans organise to raise funds. We'll also keep Jimmy informed about the list and our activities. We invite all Jimmy fans to be part of this exciting project! You can help the children in Brasil and do something Jimmy will appreciate. Come join us!
